Challenge

Park City’s drinking water was contaminated by polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Solutions

Wholly owned subsidiary Loughlin Water Associates used hydrogeologic mapping to help identify the source of polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water wells as PFAS-containing ski wax. Hydrogeologic mapping was also used to delineate the capture areas of wells, spring, and mine drain tunnels.

Results

The delineation helped to identify the source of the PFAS and protect the City’s sources from further contamination. We helped Park City to modify their Drinking Water Source Protection (DWSP) ordinance to ban PFAS containing ski wax from DWSP areas.
