Geotechnical Engineering

Geo-Logic Associates delivers expert geotechnical and geoenvironmental solutions to help clients efficiently address challenging sites, applying advanced methods and professional guidance across diverse projects.
High Caliber Geotechnical Expertise
With internationally renowned geotechnical experts leading GLA’s practice, we are exceptionally well qualified to address highly complex engineering challenges requiring innovative solutions.
Service Leader
Earthquake Engineering
We are experts in earthquake engineering for projects such as dams, levees, solid and hazardous waste landfills and Superfund sites, pipelines, vertical construction, and more. We offer:
- Site characterization
- Seismic hazard analyses
- Soil liquefaction evaluation
- Site response analyses
- Seismic stability and deformation analyses
- Paleoseismic evaluations
Beneficial Redevelopment of Brownfield Sites
We have participated in more than 200 very successful Brownfields projects and have co-authored many subject guidance documents, including for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Our services in this challenging field include:

- Planning and performing Brownfield investigations
- Mitigation development
- Closure design
- Permitting of Brownfields sites
Earth Retaining Structures and Excavation Support
GLA performs pre-design, permitting, design, construction supervision, and performance monitoring of earth retaining systems, including:

- Gravity and mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls
- Conventional lagging and tieback soldier pile walls
- Excavation stabilization by soil nailing and/or rock bolts and anchors
- Deep soil mixing to maintain seismic stability of a municipal solid waste landfill
Foundation Engineering and Ground Improvement
Our practitioners work on challenging sites where the development of dependable and cost-effective foundations is critical to project success. Our work encompasses:

- Designing shallow and deep foundation systems in non-routine and problematic soils, such as municipal solid waste (MSW)
- Developing and implementing soil improvement measures against compressible, liquefiable, expansive, and collapsible soils
Geohazard Mitigation
GLA combines advanced tools and geologic expertise to deliver precise site assessments and practical, risk-based solutions. Using drone technology and global positioning system (GPS) units, we gather accurate field data that informs robust site models and hazard evaluations. Our services include:
- Drone-based geologic mapping of bedding, faulting, and folding
- GPS-supported assessment of landslide complexes and defining parameters
- Geotechnical hazard characterization using field-generated data
- Development of detailed site models for engineering and design
- Modeling of fault-rupture propagation
- Slope-stability assessment and analysis
- Siting support for critical infrastructure using value-added methodologies
Geotechnical Laboratory Services
GLA delivers high-quality geotechnical testing through four full-service, accredited laboratories equipped with advanced technology and overseen by licensed professional engineers. Serving clients from local contractors, quarries, and municipalities to global mining firms, GLA provides reliable, standards‑based results supported by rigorous quality assurance and industry certifications. Testing includes:

- Soil classification
- Moisture-density relationships
- Soil shear strength (direct and triaxial)
- Hydraulic conductivity
- Moisture retention
- Geosynthetics and interface testing
- Amended soil testing
- Concrete, masonry, mortar, and grout testing
- Asphaltic concrete testing
- Custom field testing
Water Retention, Conveyance, and Infiltration Systems
