Dr. Matasovic is a registered Professional and Geotechnical Engineer with over three decades of consulting, teaching, and research experience. He is a nationally-recognized expert in seismic design for landfills and has more than 30 years of geotechnical engineering design, analysis, and construction-related experience for mining tailings, leach ore, and open pit
geotechnics; landfill liner, cover, berms, and surface impoundments; dams, reservoirs, levees, and dikes; industrial and commercial; public and recreational; Port, harbor, waterfront and coastal; oil and gas; transportation (traditional and design-build); and landslide mitigation, slope stability, and earthquake engineering projects. He also has expertise in numerical modeling and has provided litigation support and expert testimony.

Contributions to the Science

He is an author/co-author of over 100 technical publications, including the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Guidance Document for seismic design of Subtitle D Municipal Solid Waste landfills, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) guidance document on geotechnical earthquake engineering design guidance for highway facilities, and, most recently of the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) synthesis document on Practices and Procedures for Site-Specific Evaluation of Earthquake Ground Motions that was published by the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies. Dr. Matasovic is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Soil Dynamics Committee, a member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Geoseismic Subcommittee (AFF50) and was the recipient of the 2001 Prakash Foundation award for excellence in geotechnical earthquake engineering.
